The Orkney Islands

Cruises to Orkney from Tobermory or Stornoway will suit those wanting to build miles and experience for Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster preparation or who simply have a sense of adventure. 

Once on board we will decide the combination of long day passages or night sailing to allow us to best cover the distance. The passage north to Orkney can be along the mainland coast with views of the magnificent mountains and lochs north of Skye and visits to the Summer Isles and Inverewe Gardens.
Our first port-of-call might be Stromness and from there we can explore Scapa Flow with its strong tides and naval history.

Our Orkney base is the capital Kirkwall which has ferry links to the mainland and flights from Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow plus, starting in 2023, from London City. 

The Orkney Islands have many places of interest including the Neolithic village of Skarabrae and reward a few days spent touring on land if you have time before or after your sailing holiday. We have spent much time exploring the islands - a short sail takes us away from the relative bustle of Kirkwall. We visit sites built in the stone age and by the Picts, and the Vikings; walk above high cliffs with thousands of nesting birds; and, sail through some of the strongest tidal flows around British shores.
The return passage may be westabout via the North West mainland coast or the Outer Hebrides, or south to transit the Caledonian Canal from Inverness to Fort William.

Orkney is also our preferred port of call when heading to Shetland, Faroe or Norway.
